The NAACP New York State Conference is seeking a dynamic individual to lead with leadership values based on collaboration, innovation, and agility with a community-centric mindset. The Public Relations Associate is a thought leader responsible for spearheading internal communications across the organization. This role will be responsible for working cross-functionally across teams: You will work in close partnership with the communications sub-committee to execute communication initiatives from concept to delivery. Support leadership and their meetings: You will help craft the messaging and program such as agenda and logistics. Produce state communications: Develop and author a variety of internal and executive communications including presentations, announcements, press releases and blogs to be delivered across a variety of communications channels.
As the Public Relations Associate, you will be working to help leadership and branches across the organization to stay up to date about the company’s vision, goals, projects, and executive updates by leading strategic internal and executive communications programs. You will work across teams to support the brand mission and evolve the brand story. The ideal candidate will be a skilled storyteller with a knack for interpersonal skills and a passion for creating experiences. The role will build a strong culture of collaboration to create experiences that engage, connect and inspire the community of branches.

Establish an internal communications strategy in conjunction with senior leadership
Gather and seek out organization news, including branch unit, region updates
Update and provide content for the website as required; build out unit resources and repackage training videos
Monitor press coverage especially as it relates to branches/units
Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to leadership and branch stakeholders
Design communications strategies that consider both proactive and reactive tactics
Plan, edit, and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as a social media, newsletters, or regular email bulletins
Storyboard or translate ideas to the leadership team
Use social media to communicate with staff and community stakeholders
Draft messages, scripts, talking points from senior executives for presentation to leadership, community, and elected officials in written or spoken form
Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different branches of the conference

3+ years of work experience in communications, journalism, or marketing
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related discipline
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
Experience building cross-functional relationships
Experience working with local, regional, national media – print, web, broadcast
Experience in a consultative role working with a variety of stakeholders
Ability to manage confidential information
Experience supporting internal and external people, culture, and community communications
Experience in change management
Experience responding to press inquiries and coordinating interviews
Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to prioritize among multiple responsibilities
Copy-editing and proofing skills
Professional, good sense of humor, friendly telephone manner
Flexibility and ability to work as a team member
Solid computer skills, knowledge of social media, experience publishing web content, and database management
