The NAACP works to ensure that every disadvantaged student and student of color graduates ready for college or a career by ensuring access to great teaching, fair discipline, equitable resources and challenging curriculum. We are dedicated to eliminating the severe racial inequities that continue to plague our education system. Our ultimate goal is that every student of color receives a quality public education that prepares him or her to be a contributing member of a democracy.

Lifted Program

Dr. HAZEL N. DUKES Connect All Kids Initiative

LIFTED Parent Leadership Academy is part of the overall NAACP Educational programmatic goals. The program is designed to establish, improve and increase parent and family involvement in their child's education.

Each participating unit must select a school with the assistance of the District Superintendent, school principal and/or teachers.  Selections must take into consideration the following criteria:  The school selected must be in an underserved community; the majority of the families must be low income; the parents selected should include parents that have not had the benefits of higher education; the areas selected throughout the project can be urban or rural; each Branch must meet with the leadership of the School District and the chosen school; during this meeting a monthly schedule of meetings, seminars and lectures must be established.  Each branch and school must collaborate and build materials to be used in the program. Each branch must provide an accurate and detailed program report which should include meeting times and location.

Annually during the school year September through June and in some regions during the summer as well the LIFTED Parent Leadership Academy presents workshops, seminars and events designed to provide a program that reflects the essence of hope, positive advancement and parental engagement -- success for every child. LIFTED strengthens, informs and encourages partnerships between home, school and community.

Program is designed to teach/mentor parents so that they may be better educated and prepared to encourage, support and assist in the advancement of their children's education. Lifted has a health component of exercise and nutrition, seminars to address childhood obesity which is one of the priorities of the NAACP National Health Committee.
