NAACP New York State Conference 80th Convention and Gala

10State Conference of Branches celebrated the momentous occasion of its 80th Anniversary & State Convention, October 6-9, 2016 at the Sheraton New York. The 80th anniversary was symbolized by the "Oak Tree," considered a symbol of longevity, strength and endurance. This year's convention theme was, "Our Lives Matter, Our Votes Count;" and underscores the importance of connecting achievements with the ballot box and was central in convention workshop panelist and speakers. Over 500 delegates from adult branches and the youth and college division attended the convention which featured workshops, discussions and speakers highlighting voter education, voter protection and voter mobilization. The convention reflected on past successes in education, healthcare, economic engagement and criminal justice; focusing on the many challenges we face in continuing our unprecedented progress championing for civil rights.
