2010 AWARDS

Dr. Hazel N. Dukes to receive the Althea T.L. Simmons Social Action Award from the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.  The award was created in memory of the late Soror Althea T.L. Simmons and is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions in the area of human rights.  The first recipient of the award was Myrlie Evers-Williams (1998).  Other past recipients include civil rights activist and NAACP organizer Maxine Smith (2000); medical pioneer and civil rights activist Dr. Edith Irby Jones (2002); Dr. Dorothy I Height (2004) and Dr. Adelaide Sanford (2006)

The award will be presented to Dr. Dukes at the Public Meeting of the 50th Delta Sigma Theta Sorority National Convention in New Orleans on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.
